2010 08-11 Far West SB Channel
Hordes of Blue Whales (Balaenoptera musculus) and Humpback Whales (Megaptera novaeangliae) were feeding today, 42 miles from the Harbor, at the far west end of the Santa Barbara Channel. What a thrill to see these beasts all congregated together feasting on krill. On the way we saw Common Dolphins (Delphinus capensis) attacking schools of Northern Anchovies (Engraulis mordax), and also saw Risso's Dolphins (Grampus griseus). Wow! Be sure to click the "Map This" button above this message (right side) to see where we went.
