It was a calm, glassy day so the turbulence you see was caused by hundreds of active sea lions. The sea lions covered a huge area but in the center was a calm group of animals relaxing in a drifting kelp paddy.

Today a bunch of sea lions relaxed on a giant kelp paddy while all around them for hundreds of yards a thousand or so of their brothers and sisters were actively diving, feeding and jumping.

This crazy long-beaked common dolphin decided to take a high speed run with its nose sticking out of the perfectly glassy surface. Seems to me that this behavior usually has feeding or mating involved, but not this time. It was just noodling along.
