Tail fluke - Humpback Whale (Megaptera novaeangliae). The ventral surface of the Humpback tail is its signature for identification. It tells a story. Look at the way the trailing edge is serrated or scalloped. Humpbacks are born with these scallops. Other small scars are visible, and some scrapes. Two circular white scars are probably the result of Cookie Cutter Shark (Isistius brasiliensis) attacks. Researchers use photographs like this one to identify and track individual Humpback Whales.
