2015 09-09 SB Channel
Captain Dave headed south until deck hand Tasha put us on the first 2 of what would end up being 13 humpback whales. All of the whales today were traveling and spending long times underwater. On the surface however, humpback tail flukes abound ! There were a few random and unpredicted breaches, and one very distant whale (perhaps 2 miles away) breached about 10 times and hardly anyone could see it. It was almost obscured by the curvature of the earth, I think.
Approximately 275 long-beaked common dolphins were watched today, and mostly these little cetaceans were riding the small wind swells to the east. A few calves were sprinkled here and there among the pods.
