2019 09-20 SB Channel – Far West
-
Very sunny skies with light and variable winds prevailed in our neck of the Channel. There was, however, a moderate bump from winds to the far west that blew all night. Captain Dave and the crew headed west past Hondo and around Harmony. We’d encountered whales in this spot 2 days ago, but today…nada. We did see long-beaked common dolphins, some working small hotspots alongside California sea lions, sooty shearwaters and other seabirds. We came very close to Hondo on the westbound leg of our trip, and Dave said a few nice words about oil exploration in the Channel. We left the western platforms and ran east all the way back to the harbor in the mid-Channel region. Once again we had wonderful views of the Gaviota Coast.
